At Poonthottam, our commitment to your well-being extends to every step of the healing journey. Our GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) certified manufacturing unit stands as a testament to our dedication to quality and tradition. We craft more than 300 Ayurvedic medicines within our Kulakkad facility, following rigorous quality standards.
Our Legacy of In-House Manufacturing
Our journey into in-house medicine manufacturing began with the inception of the hospital in 1989. Vaidya Ravi, our visionary founder, personally crafted every medicine needed on our campus. As demand for his potent treatments grew, a specialized medicine manufacturing wing was established under his meticulous guidance.
Modernization and Expansion
In 2007, we took a significant stride forward by establishing our fully functional modern factory. This expansion was necessary to meet the rising demand for our medicines while upholding the stringent quality standards required by our GMP certification.
The Essence of Quality: Raw Material Collection
The heart of our medicine manufacturing process lies in the careful selection of pure raw ingredients. We source many raw materials locally, partnering with trusted farmers and cultivators who grow herbs like Bala and Sunthi in their farms and homes. For the remaining medicinal materials, we rely on traders with whom we have built strong and trustworthy relationships over three decades or more. Each raw material undergoes meticulous scrutiny by our Quality Control Team. Only when approved by them do the ingredients proceed to the next stage. Rejected lots are responsibly discarded into a compost pit, ensuring sustainability.
Medicine Preparation: Where Tradition Meets Innovation
Our medicines are prepared under strict supervision within our modern facility. Our unit runs 24/7 during production period (15-20 days a month) each month, deliberately operating at 50% efficiency. This deliberate pace prioritizes quality over quantity. We’ve replaced the traditional stove system with a modern thermic fluid heater mechanism to enhance efficiency. Every finished product undergoes rigorous evaluation by our Quality Control Team, ensuring that our medicines consistently meet high-quality standards.
Innovation and Research
Our Research and Development department tirelessly explores new product development and modifications to existing ones. New products are meticulously crafted, satisfying all statutory requirements like product and clinical studies, and obtaining necessary licenses. A significant milestone in Ayurvedic innovation was achieved when Vaidya Ravi introduced a trademarked process to convert classic kashaayas (decoctions) into easily ingestible tablets. These Ayurvedic pills retain their original purity, free from preservatives or chemicals, making them seamlessly integrable into your lifestyle.
